BoxTrack vs Scanlily for storage bins and home organization

Scanlily builds an inventory from a video you narrate and sells QR stickers anyone can scan. BoxTrack builds one from photos and prints QR labels on standard sticker sheets. An honest comparison.

We picked these rows and we make BoxTrack, so read it with that in mind. Every fact links to its source below.

Where Scanlily is stronger

Native apps on both phone platforms, the video approach, and team equipment checkout. If you manage gear for a club, church or small office, that checkout feature is something BoxTrack doesn't have.

Where BoxTrack is stronger

Values and paperwork. If the inventory has to work for an insurance claim or a customs list, BoxTrack keeps used and replacement values, serial numbers and purchase dates, and turns them into a PDF or a spreadsheet.

Things to know about BoxTrack

It's new and it's a web app, with no App Store download. It can't import an inventory from Scanlily or other apps. The free plan is 1 box with up to 5 items, and a whole move or storage unit needs a paid plan, with a 72-hour free trial.

The details

Why this comparison

Scanlily and BoxTrack are close cousins. Both put a QR code on your boxes and bins that opens in any phone camera, with no app needed to scan it, and both use AI so you don't type everything. They get there differently. We make BoxTrack; here's the honest comparison.

Scanlily

Scanlily ("Scanlily: Organize with AI") is for home and storage organization, and also for teams: it has equipment checkout. According to its App Store listing, its AI builds your inventory from a video you narrate as you walk around. Its QR stickers, according to Capterra, open the item's web page in any phone's camera, so the person scanning doesn't need to install anything. Its labels are also on sale at Walmart, and that listing says it runs on iOS, Android and the web. GetApp lists a free plan.

Barcode scanning, a PDF or insurance report and CSV export were not found. A related app called ShelfLily also has an App Store listing.

BoxTrack

BoxTrack runs in the browser on any phone or computer. You make a box for each bin, moving box, closet or room, and photograph what's in it. AI fills in names, quantities and replacement values, and on Plus and Unlimited, one photo of an open bin can list everything inside. You can scan barcodes too. You can note where a box sits (back wall, top shelf), so before you drive to the storage unit you can search for the thing and see which box it's in and where.

Each box gets a color-coded QR label on standard sticker sheets, and any phone camera opens its list. Boxes can sit inside boxes, which helps with packing cubes in suitcases or bags in crates.

BoxTrack also tracks what things are worth, used and new. On Plus and Unlimited you can make a PDF claim report with every photo and value and export to Excel or CSV. For a move, there are box weights against your mover's or airline's limit and a moving-day check-in.

Video or photos?

Narrating a video is fast when you're walking a garage or a storage unit and the things are already on shelves. Photos fit better when you're packing: snap the open box, close it, stick on the label. It's worth trying both ways on one shelf and seeing which you'd actually keep doing.
