Asset Vault

BoxTrack vs Asset Vault for a home inventory with AI

Asset Vault is an iPhone home inventory app where a photo suggests an item's name, brand and value, with receipt scanning, LiDAR room scans and an insurance PDF. BoxTrack does photos in the browser and adds box labels. How to choose.

Pick Asset Vault

if you have an iPhone, your goal is an insurance inventory, and you'd rather pay once for unlimited AI than subscribe.

Pick BoxTrack

if you're not on an iPhone (or not only), or your inventory also needs to cover packed boxes, a storage unit or a move.

Where Asset Vault is stronger

Receipts and room scans are useful extras for proving what you owned, and a native iPhone app can use the phone's LiDAR sensor in a way a browser app can't. The one-time purchase will appeal to anyone tired of subscriptions.

Where BoxTrack is stronger

It works on any phone, so a household with both iPhones and Android phones can share one inventory. One photo of an open box can give you every item in it. A spreadsheet export means your data isn't stuck in the app. And it does double duty for moving and storage, with labels, weights and a check-in.

Things to know about BoxTrack

It's new, it's a web app with no App Store download, and it can't import from Asset Vault or other apps. The free plan is 1 box with up to 5 items, and a whole home needs a paid plan, with a 72-hour free trial.

The details

Why this comparison

Asset Vault and BoxTrack were both built with the same idea: a home inventory is a chore mostly because of the typing, so let a photo do it. Asset Vault does that as an iPhone app focused on insurance. BoxTrack does it in the browser and leans toward boxes, moves and storage as well. We make BoxTrack. Here's an honest comparison.

Asset Vault

Asset Vault: Home Inventory is from an independent developer and, according to its Product Hunt page, runs on iPhone (iOS 15.1 or later). It's pitched for households, as the home alternative to business tools like Sortly and insurer-linked apps like Encircle. Take a photo and it suggests the item's name, brand, category and value. It also scans receipts, can scan a room with the iPhone's LiDAR sensor, and makes an insurance-ready PDF.

According to its AlternativeTo listing, it's free to download, and unlimited AI is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. Barcode scanning, CSV export and box labels were not found.

BoxTrack

BoxTrack runs in the browser on any phone or computer, with nothing to install. Make a box for each room, closet or bin, and snap what's in it. AI fills in the name, quantity and replacement value, and on Plus and Unlimited, a photo of a whole shelf or open box lists every item in it at once. You can scan barcodes too.

Each item keeps its photo, the date you added it, its used and replacement values, and a serial number and purchase date if you add them. On Plus and Unlimited you get a PDF claim report with every photo and value, Excel and CSV export, and sharing with family.

The box side is where BoxTrack is different: QR labels on standard sticker sheets that any phone camera can scan, boxes inside boxes, box weights against a limit, and a moving-day check-in. BoxTrack's plans are subscriptions, monthly or yearly.
