Questions
Does USPS change my address everywhere?
No. USPS forwards your mail to the new address for 12 months, but forwarding doesn’t change your address with your bank, your employer, your insurance or anyone else. Tell each of them yourself. Mail that keeps arriving forwarded comes from someone who still has your old address.
How much does it cost to change my address with USPS?
On paper at a post office, nothing. Online at usps.com/move there’s a small identity check fee, paid by card. Use usps.com itself: look-alike sites charge far more to send the same request.
When should I change my address?
Set up mail forwarding up to 3 months before you move, starting on moving day. Tell your bank, your employer and your insurance in the last two weeks before the move, and the DMV and your voter registration once you’ve moved.
