We picked these rows and we make BoxTrack, so read it with that in mind. Every fact links to its source below.

Where ElephantTrax is stronger

It has a longer track record, a native iPhone app and its own label packs. If you only want to find things in storage, and you're on an iPhone, it covers that well.

Where BoxTrack is stronger

Values, moving tools and reach. It tracks used and replacement values, weighs boxes against a limit, checks boxes off the truck, and runs on any phone, so a partner on Android can use the same boxes.

Things to know about BoxTrack

It's new, and it's a web app with no App Store download. It can't import from ElephantTrax or other apps. The free plan is 1 box with up to 5 items, and a whole move or storage unit needs a paid plan, with a 72-hour free trial.

More: making a moving inventory and QR code labels for storage bins.

The details

Why this comparison

ElephantTrax and BoxTrack aim at the same problem: boxes in a garage, a storage unit or a moving truck, and no idea which one has the thing you need. Both put QR codes on boxes and both use AI on your photos, but the AI does a different job in each. We make BoxTrack. Here's an honest look.

ElephantTrax

ElephantTrax: AI Storage is made by Thought Spawn LLC for households tracking boxes and storage. It's been on the App Store since 2020. It makes a QR code for each box and sells label packs. According to Capterra, its AI tags your item photos with keywords so a search finds them, and it makes PDF and CSV reports. Capterra also mentions web and mobile access; a Google Play listing wasn't found.

According to an App Store data site, the core features are free, and sharing and export need a subscription. Barcode scanning was not found.

What it does well: it's an established QR-label storage app, and AI tags mean you can find a photo by what's in it without having typed anything.

BoxTrack

BoxTrack runs in the browser on any phone or computer. You make a box, snap what goes into it, and AI fills in each item's name, quantity and replacement value. On Plus and Unlimited, a photo of a whole open box lists every item in it, ready to add in one tap. You can scan barcodes, and add weight, owner, status or fragile to any box.

QR labels print on standard sticker sheets, color-coded. On moving day, scan each box as it comes off the truck and BoxTrack shows which ones are still missing. Boxes can sit inside boxes, and you can tag each item Ship, Sell, Store, Donate or Toss.

On Plus and Unlimited, you get a PDF claim report with every photo and value, Excel and CSV export, and sharing with family or movers, view-only or editable. Starter includes labels, weights, the check-in and 10 AI photo scans a month.

Tags or item lists?

AI tags are good for finding things: search "drill" and the photo with the drill turns up. An item list goes further when you need numbers. If a box goes missing in a move or a pipe bursts in the basement, a list with each thing's name, quantity and value is what you'll want for the claim. BoxTrack gives you that list, and you can still search it.
